MAGIC GOES FASTEST IN NEWBRIDGE DERBY

Ian Fortune

Willie Rigney’s All About Magic took the headlines at Newbridge with a fastest of the round 30.07 in the opening second round heat of the Friends Of Newbridge A1 Derby.

The Owen McKenna trained son of Kinloch Brae and Newinn Willow displayed the best early speed on view to lead Russmur Shane around the turn.

It was a decisive maneouvre and one that saw All About Magic race into a clear advantage. Both Lightfoot Impact and Russmur Shane attempted to stay in touch but All About Magic went on to win by five lengths from Russmur Shane. Lightfoot Impact was four lengths further away in third.

LUCIUS COMES HOME FAST

Scarborough Fair and Only A Number disputed the early running in Heat 2 but Prince Lucius was too strong for the pair in the latter stages.

Ollie Bray’s son of Crash and Limini hit the front on the final turn before going on to win by four and a half lengths from fellow fast finisher Toolmaker Beach in 30.16. Only A Number was another length adrift.

MENDELSON OBLIGES

Mendelson was the warm favourite for Heat 3 and Ger Hutton’s son of Droopys Sydney and Ravenna came through to win despite failing to set the pace.

The Tommy O’Donovan trained star charged into the third turn to take up the running before easing on to beat Boderan Tiger by two lengths in 30.41. Shady Bueno was another two and a half lengths back in third.
