BILL TUOHY

BILL TUOHY

It’s with real sadness we must report the passing of a great friend to greyhound sport, Bill Tuohy, peacefully earlier this week.

During a lifetime involved in greyhound racing and coursing, he left quite a mark and will be missed by those that knew him.

Of course, Bill was a director of Thurles greyhound stadium for many years, a track that his late father John was amongst the founders through Thurles Coursing Club in 1948. In fact, Thurles Coursing Club ran their meetings on Bill’s land for thirty years.

He had plenty of success on the track and up the field, including a success in the Waterloo Purse with Trade Plate, which was named after the license needed to own a truck for his quarry business. He was also an exporter of live eels from Ireland to London, Germany and France from the 1950s.

But it is through his involvement in greyhound sport that he will be best remembered. His son John, who has been a successful handler and is a leader stud keeper, will continue the legacy but he has big shoes to fill.

Anyone that knew Bill were in no doubt he was a greyhound man to the core and we send on our sincerest condolences to his loving family, sons Willie, John Joe, Michael and Eamon, daughter Catherine, his beloved grandchildren Aisling, Sinead, Lenny, Alyssa and Jasper, daughters-in-law Caroline and Olga, son-in-law Joseph, sister Molsey, sisters-in-law Biddie and Josie, brothers-in-law Liam, Johnsie and Ned, extended family and his many friends in sport.

May He Rest In Peace.
