ANOTHER TREMENDOUS KILKENNY SALES

ANOTHER TREMENDOUS KILKENNY SALES

Ian Fortune

There was another hugely successful sales meeting at Kilkenny last Saturday morning, May 13th. The turnover on the day was extremely impressive - the highest in years - while the clearance rate was also very high.

Of the many impressive lots to sell on the day, the Maura Molloy owned Puckane Sydney sold for the highest sum. The September ’21 whelp, who is unraced, won his trial in a quick 29.25 and was later sold for €7,400 on the bench.

Bellmore Gavi – a January ’22 unraced son of Newinn Taylor and Bellmore Lucy won his trial in 29.57 and sold for €6,100. Other sales included Rackethall Cove (€4,200), Rebel Autumn (€3,200) Rebel Sapphire (€2,500) and Droopys Gianna (€2,200).

Perhaps the most interesting lot on the day was Ballygur Tana. A September ’21 son of Pestana, he is closely related to 2022 English Derby finalist and former leading stayer Hello Hammond. His dam happens to be a litter sister to Hammond.

He displayed all sorts of early speed as he posted a rapid 4.23 sectional before stopping the third bend clock in 16.83. To highlight the strength of the run, no other greyhound on the day broke 17 seconds to the third turn.

He stayed right to the line to win his trial in a fastest of the day 29.09. It was somewhat surprising to see him go unsold at €7,000 but is certainly one to keep an eye on going forward.

The next Kilkenny sales is pencilled in for Saturday, July 1st and it’s sure to attract plenty of interest once again.
