Clonmel Track Open Meeting

Thursday April 21st, 2022 at Hotel Minella, Clonmel

A very successful Open meeting was held in relation to the future of Clonmel track on Thursday April 21st at the Hotel Minella, Clonmel.

A large Crowd attended which included Owners and Breeders, patrons, Shareholders, and several of Irelands top trainers. It was a very open and frank discussion and all points have been taken on board. Many points were discussed and as a result a number of committees have been set as follows

  • A Tidy Track, maintenance and welfare committee was set up to ensure track and facilities are kept to a very high standard going forward. This committee will also examine the track itself and will make any changes necessary to ensure track is maintained to the highest of standards. It is believed to improve track turnover from trials and general welfare of greyhounds etc. that this is essential. An initial clean-up day has been arranged for Wednesday 27th of April and interested parties will be contacted in the next day or so.
  • A Fundraising, Promotions and Social media committee was also set up. This committee will work to raise funds for the track through promoting Benefit nights and attracting sponsors etc. This committee will also assist in the promotion and marketing of the track. It will endeavour to improve the tracks Social Media presence and use social media to let the greyhound and more importantly non greyhound public know of events at track and maximise the marketing potential of social media for the tracks benefit.
  • It is anticipated that these committees may set up sub committees where specific areas can be delegated for maximum effect. A member of track executive will sit on all committees to ensure full transparency between the committees and the Board of the track and ensure that decisions can be made in a timely manner to support committee and track.

A proposal to establish a Clonmel Track membership of €100 per year was unanimously passed at the meeting. The directors would like to thank all people for this vote and thank all members who have already contributed. It is aimed that membership year will start on June 1st, 2022 and run until 31st May 2023. Membership will be used to improve and maintain track, upgrade Punters Rest and run Member race meetings with enhanced prizemoney.

The Directors would like to again thank everyone for their attendance and contributions on the night and would like to make special mention to

Damien Matthews Chairman of IGOBF who travelled from Newry to attend

Geoff Parnaby Chairman of Tipperary GOBA

Nathan Corden consultant to Towcester greyhound track who travelled from UK

and finally, Myles Roban and Dan Whelan from Enniscorthy. We believe private tracks need to work together and their participation can only enhance that relationship.

Yours Sincerely

The Directors Davis Road Greyhound Racing Stadium Plc.
