NINETEEN NOT OUT FOR VETERAN RAGNER

NINETEEN NOT OUT FOR VETERAN RAGNER

Peter Farrell

It's always brilliant to see veteran greyhounds still going strong and Coologue Ragner certainly falls into that bracket.

A September 16’ whelp, Coologue Ragner landed his debut race at Clonmel in July 2018 and since that date, he has tasted success a further eighteen times in what has been a very decorated career. Owned by Kevin O’Kane of Derry, his latest victory came at the Brandywell on Monday night as he led from trap-to-line to win comfortably and that performance was enough to suggest that the son of Skywalker Farloe and Russanda Razl still has the ability to compete at a high level.

Incredibly, Coologue Ragner has won over six different distances which range from 335-yards right up to 700-yards and all tracks come alike with victories coming at Derry, Drumbo Park, Dundalk, Longford, Clonmel and Lifford. Indeed, it was the North-West venue where he gained the tag as a track specialist, notching three valuable sweepstakes throughout 2018/2019, one of which being the very competitive An-Cu Veterinary 525 where he pocketed a handsome €1,850 winners prize.

The evergreen tracker ventured to Longford next where he landed his opening round heat of the Longford Derby and subsequently went all the way to the final in that prestigious event. In what has been a glittering career for the soon to be six-year-old, he has now amassed over €9,000 in prizemoney and has made the frame an astonishing sixty times from his eighty-three starts. Based on Monday night’s performance at the Brandywell, expect the heavyweight to add to that figure as 2022 progresses.
