GIZMO FASTEST IN NEWBRIDGE SEMI-FINALS

Ian Fortune

Jamie McGee tasted the highs and the lows of greyhound racing at Newbridge on Friday night in the semi-finals of the Friends Of Newbridge A1 Derby.

His impressive opening and second round winner Hawkfield Breeze carried no luck in the opening heat, hitting the deck at the turn, before Gizmo Cash emerged a brilliant winner of the second heat in a fastest of the round 29.88.

SMASHER TOO STRONG

Gizmo Smasher was only third into the turn behind the fast starting Grangeview West and Beepers Cian but was always stalking the pair.

Flying into the third turn, the son of Ballymac Bolger and Beaming Smasher shot through on the fence to assume control and he was never going to surrender his lead thereafter.

Staying on strongly to the line, Gizmo Smasher emerged a comfortable four and a half-length scorer over Grangeview West. Beepers Cian was another three lengths back in third.

WILDE EMERGES IN MESSY CONTEST

A messy opening semi-final saw Toolmaker Wile emerge a length and a half scorer over Jirano Supreme in 30.01.

Trained by Robert Gleeson for Willie Hyslop, the son of Droopys Jet and Kilara Lizzie went on to score by a length and a half in 30.01. Clonuff Colm was a long way back in third, finishing some thirteen lengths behind the runner-up.
