Word came through yesterday that the Michael Fortune Memorial Plate will see the prizemoney for first place boosted to an impressive €7,500.

Initially worth €5,000 to the winner, it means there will be added jeopardy in Saturday’s quarter finals of the competition.

Ballymac Run set the standard in the opening round, posting a rapid 29.34 but she faces a tough test in the last of the four quarter finals.
