THUNDER STRIKES IN WATERFORD FEATURE

Barry Drake

It was all about Granard Thunder in the final of the John Fitzgerald Memorial A1 550 final at Kilcohan Park on Saturday night.

Trained by Joe Anglim for owners John White and Tom Lambert, the 5-2 winner delivered a superb performance in the €3,250 to the winner event.

An 87-pound son of Ballymac Best, he got away to a dream start and once he led around the opening turns, he was always going to take the world of catching. Lough Mistoki was showing plenty of pace in behind, but the winner had all the answers as he stayed on strongly to land the spoils. A length the difference in 30.06. Risk It Blue was a length behind the runner up in third.

JENSON THE DERBY TRIAL STAKE WINNER

Brynoffa Jenson took race nine, the BoyleSports Derby Trial Stake for trainer Eamon Mackey and owner Hannah Mackey.

Sparta Max stormed around the opening bends in front, but the 5-2 winner turned second and always looked dangerous. Showing plenty of pace down the back straight, Brynoffa Jenson then finished off well to score, in 30.20. Daring Buick ran on well for second, just a length behind.
