ICON FASTEST FOR DOYLES AT ENNISCORTHY

ICON FASTEST FOR DOYLES AT ENNISCORTHY

Ian Fortune

The staff and regulars of Doyles Pub, the Still, will be getting excited about the display of Forest Icon in the opening round of the Public House Unraced at Enniscorthy on Monday night.

Paddy Kehoe’s well bred son of Ballymac Best and former top racer Roanna Bess was a very taking winner as he posted the fastest time of the night. Of course, if he manages to win the stake, his nominators in Doyles Pub will be given a free night at the track, which includes a tidy sum to spend behind the bar.

It’s clear the January ’21 whelp has a big engine. Only fourth into the turn, he ran a tremendous bend to challenge for second as they entered the back straight. His litter sister Roanna Sadie was dictating the pace at this point but Forest Icon began to move through the gears approaching the third turn.

Moving upsides at the final turn, he raced right away to win by three and a half lengths in 28.96. Expect the winner to go considerably faster very soon. He’s very useful and looks destined for better things in the future.

GREGG NEXT FASTEST

Next fastest was Coonough Gregg for Mark Sullivan in the second heat.

The son of Eden The Kid and Coonough Dolly was always in charge as he came home two lengths clear of Roanna Broc in 29.04.

HALO AN EASY WINNER

Peter Nolan and Cora Doyle were responsible for Swift Halo who came home clear in Heat 3.

Despite edging inwards from trap four, he was dominant throughout, eventually coming home ten lengths clear in 29.06.

Rushmoor Queen (29.59), Dysert Sherlock (29.28) and Coolavanny Raven (29.20) won the remaining heats. The unraced stake will continue next Monday night and it would be no surprise to see a few improved displays.
