CODY SETS STANDARD TO THIRD TURN

Given the fact that he won the 2021 Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup, it should be no surprise that Good Cody produced a stunning display of early speed to post the fastest third bend sectional in the opening round of the Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby.
Of course, he also went on to post a fastest of the round 29.25. To highlight the strength of that run, Bockos Budsit was next fastest to the third bend mark but was almost two lengths back on the clock as he posted 17.07.
Despite just clearing the turn in the opening heat of the round, Mustang Jet was next fastest with a 17.09 run to the third bend. Coolavanny Hoffa was one of the most eye-catching greyhounds to the halfway and he also went quick, posting 17.10 to the third turn.
There were a number of big names just a fraction slower. These included Born Warrior (17.15), Bobsleigh Dream (17.15) and Kildare (17.18), while Tullig Raven and Sentimental Lad both posted 17.20.
It’s worth noting that the top ten times to the third turn were spread pretty evenly over the two nights. Six of the top ten clocks to the third bend were posted on Friday, with the remaining four the following evening suggesting the track was running pretty much the same on both nights.
Incidentally, the third bend clock of Good Cody stacks up extremely well with the times posted in the corresponding round in 2020 and 2021. Subsequent Derby third Jackslittlething went fastest in last year’s opening round, posting a fast 16.96, while Pestana set the standard with a 17.01 return in 2020.
