BRIGHT FUTURE FOR BALLYNEW KING

BRIGHT FUTURE FOR BALLYNEW KING

Peter Farrell

Limerick hosted their monthly Monday meeting last night and there was an eye-catching debut performance from Ballynew King as he flew around the Dock Road circuit in 28.62.

Jointly owned by Ciara Burke and Jason O’Dwyer, confidence was clearly high for the January 21’ puppy as he went to traps the even money favourite to land the spoils and after clocking well in qualifying, he certainly didn’t disappoint. Rocketing from trap three, the well-bred son of Premier Fantasy and Oakview Brae outpaced his rivals to the opening turn and took a three length lead heading into the back straight. From here, the powerful black excelled as he doubled his advantage to six lengths approaching the penultimate turn. Tracking brilliantly for a novice, Ballynew King got stronger as the race progressed and he crossed the line with a massive fourteen lengths to spare over Curraghmoretoffe in second. The time, as mentioned, was a super 28.62 and no doubt we will be hearing more from this promising youngster in the coming months. Indeed, his pedigree is also worth noting. His dam, Oakview Brae, was an open class performer but she hails from the famous ‘Maybe Baby’ line which has thrown many top-class performers over the years such as Skywalker Rossa, Slick Sioux, Maireads Fantasy, Rossa Baby and Roxholme Kristof to name a few.
