We all love to get treats for our birthday, but sometimes it’s just as rewarding to give something too.
Facebook Birthday Fundraisers are rising in popularity as people look for a way to give back to a cause their passionate about. It works by choosing a charity you'd like to raise money for, then asking friends and family members to forgo birthday gifts and donate to your fundraiser instead.
The Irish Retired Greyhound Trust (IRGT) were delighted to have been the recipient of a small number of birthday fundraisers in recent months, particularly over the COVID-19 lockdown period, a time that was difficult financially for many people and organisations.
Through their Facebook page they also organised a successful ‘Walk With Us’ fundraiser and it was heartening to see it so strongly supported by the racing community.
While the IRGT does receive personal donations, it is predominantly funded by GRI’s prizemoney deductions and with the recent suspension of racing, this has been impacted, so external funding was vital.
The IRGT are now reminding those of you with birthdays approaching to consider a Birthday Fundraiser to support them. Big or small, all donations are much appreciated.
If you’d like to support the IRGT for your birthday, it’s easy. Facebook will prompt you as you approach your birthday to set up a birthday fundraiser. Simply follow the steps, selecting the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust page as your chosen charity.
