After the 2020 Friends of Limerick Irish St.Leger came to a conclusion last week at Limerick Greyhound Stadium, it was a quiet affair at the Dock Road circuit last night with Oisins Choice the standout performer on the night.
We had to wait until the final race of the session to see a greyhound dip under the 29 second barrier but that came from Oisins Choice, owned by the Free-State-Gang syndicate. A previous winner in 28.83, it wouldn't have come as any shock to see Oisins Choice take this A2 contest by the scruff of the neck and he duly broke in front from trap three to lead early doors. Setting a solid pace in front, the son of Droopys Roddick - Dunquin Bound never saw another tail and he pulled away in the latter stages of the contest to win by a four length margin. The time was a hot 28.63.
LOCKDOWN BREAKS HIS DUCK
Lockdown hadn’t enjoyed a lot of luck prior to last night, enduring troublesome passages in each of his two starts to date. However, the Thomas and Tim O’Donovan owned greyhound put things right with a classy display in race seven.
Stepping up in trip to 575 yards, Lockdown certainly appreciated the extra yardage and he broke moderately from trap one to dispute early on. Disputing the early running with Drumgeely Dash and Bright Dream, Lockdown turned in third but showed a devastating burst of speed down the back to storm past his rivals. Once in front, the gap opened and Lockdown was in full throttle heading into the home straight. A real classy display, the son of Laughil Blake - Miss Mini Marvel crossed the line with a healthy four and a half length lead intact. The time was a quick 31.62.
There was another notable performance over the 600 yard trip just prior to that from Hitachi Danny who doubled his career tally for owner Patrick Sheehy.
A five dog affair, Ballintuber Cain broke best of all from trap three but Hitachi Danny showed a terrific turn of early pace to blow his rivals away into the opening corner. Steering a wide course down the back straight, Sheehy’s black maintained a one length lead as he rounded the penultimate corner. However, Hitachi Danny was merely warming up at this stage as the son of Ballymac Vic - Hitachi Mollie pulled clear in the closing stages of the event and eventually accounted for a two length win. The time was a very decent 32.99.
PAUL IS PROMISING
Bling Bling Paul met a hot one in his only career start prior to last night but John Meehan’s greyhound clearly has plenty of ability of his own and he landed nine in good style.
Only a May 19’ whelp, Bling Bling Paul (SH Avatar - Killanin Reina) walked from trap one as Blastoff Butch showed the early running and the latter proceeded to open a seven length advantage heading into the back straight. However, after barging his way through early on, Bling Bling Paul was motoring in second and had already cut the gap in half heading into the penultimate corner. In full flow with the winning line in sight, Blin Bling Paul blew holes in his rival in the final fifty yards and he came home a length and three parts better off. The time was a good 29.10 and this a greyhound who is certainly worth keeping an eye on going forward.
