MR LOGAN IMPRESSES AS FAHY NOTCHES A DOUBLE AT GALWAY

Peter Farrell

There were a number of impressive performances at Galway greyhound stadium last night but the run of Mr Logan was of particular note as the Donal Duggan trained dog motored to land his 575-yard contest.

Jointly owned by Eve and Martin Crowe, Mr Logan was chasing a fifth success prior to last night and he produced a career best effort in landing the spoils over the extended 575-yard trip. Astutely tipped up as a nap selection by George McDonagh in the weekend review, Mr Logan pinged the lids from trap one and appreciated every yard of the long run to the opening corner to take control. Holding a two length lead into the back straight, Tigerintempo was the main challenger approaching the penultimate corner. However, Mr.Logan wasn’t for catching and the son of Droopys Roddick - Sarista stayed on stoutly in the closing yards to come home three lengths clear of Tigerintempo in second. The time was a smashing 31.55.

FAHY NOTCHES DOUBLE

Elsewhere on the card there was a double for kennel of Martin Fahy as both Cold Blow and Mall Finn Junior landed their respective events.

First up was Cold Blow in a 350-yard contest in race five. Owned by Padraig Hoban, the July 19’ whelp was having just his second career start and he scored with relative ease. Only moderately into stride from trap one, Cold Blow took off when he hit the sand and he took up the running at the crown of the opening turn. From here, it was a straightforward success for the son of Scolari Me Daddy - Expert Honey as he flew up the home straight to win by six lengths. The time was a 19.32.

The double was completed in the final race of the night as Mall Finn Junior (Rio Quattro - Paradise Maria) dipped under the twenty-nine second barrier as he finished at speed to land the spoils. Owned by Michael Casey, Mall Finn Junior was led early on by Wee Small Hours and after a smart break from six by the latter, he swept the opening turn to take a two length lead into the back. Very much a two-dog affair out in front, Mall Finn Junior wasn’t going away however, and he stayed on best of all in the closing yards to claim a length and a half victory over Wee Small Hours in second. The time was a fast 28.99.

TOES BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Another greyhound to dip under twenty-nine seconds on the night was Twentylittletoes as she landed the spoils in race four, the Talking Dogs A2 525.

An impressive winner of her second start in 29.04, Twentylittletoes came up against stiff opposition in her subsequent two starts to date. However, she showed all of her class to land last night’s A2 event in style for joint owners, Cyril Collins and Kate Comerford. Led early on by Puck Out, Twentylittletoes scraped the paintwork at the opening bend to take control upon entrance to the back straight. From here, the daughter of Droopys Sydney - Rathmeehan May showed no signs of any let up and she had three lengths in hand of nearest challenger, Tradesman in second. The time was a very good 28.94.
