HEADFORDS STEAL THE SHOW AT GALWAY

HEADFORDS STEAL THE SHOW AT GALWAY

Peter Farrell

There were a number of smart displays last night at Galway Greyhound Stadium and the highlight of the night was a double for Seamus Leahy with his talented pair, Headford Honey and Headford Flash.

Headford Honey was having her first career start in a Novice 350 event but the May 19’ whelp ran like a seasoned performer as she came home over six lengths clear. Bolting out of trap four, the daughter of Tyrur Big Mike - Headford Fantasy soon put the race to bed as she showed the brilliant early gears to take a comfortable lead into the opening corner. From here, it was a formality and the talented novice stopped the clock in 19.07.

The double was completed later in the card as Headford Flash was by far the fastest in the opening round of the Tom Qualter Unraced 525. Jointly owned by Seamus Leahy and Gerry Dillon, Headford Flash, like his kennel companion, made no mistakes at traps as he flew from trap five to lead early doors. Stretching out nicely thereafter, it was clear that the son of Laughil Blake - Headford Maura was a cut above the rest as he stayed on well to score by over five lengths. The time was an exception 28.94 and expect to hear much more about this fellow in the coming months.

SKY BREAKS 29

Killanin Sky is equally effective over both sprint and standard distances and he returned to the 525 yard trip last night to run out a very convincing winner or race eleven.

Quickest intro stride from trap two, the All-In-One syndicate owned greyhound showed his usual early gears to head the field in the early exchanges. A smart dog when on the bunny, the well bred son of Taylors Sky - Wrathchild flew down the back straight before cementing his win in the latter stages of the contest. Over seven lengths too strong in the end, the time was a slick 28.99.

LOUIS LEAVES IT LATE

Martin Fahy made the headlines last night for the performance of Fast Fit Limit and the astute handler continued his winning form in the opening race of the night as Curious Louis got up late to score.

Owned by Hughie Keleghan, Curious Louis (Skywalker Puma - Rylane Puma) was still searching for a first win and wasn’t too well away from trap one in his bid to break his unwanted duck. However, he picked his spots well and came through runners to finish best of all and grab the win. A half a length better off as they crossed the winning line, the time was a smart 29.05.

TWENTY SCORES

Another runner who caught the eye last night was Twentylittletoes as the daughter of Droopys Sydney - Rathmeehan May dominated her A6 event to win in style.

Owned by Cyril Collins and Kate Comerford, Twentylittletoes was only having her second start but she made light work of her rivals with a thoroughly impressive display. Fast away wearing the black jacket, Twentylittletoes raced into the opening corner clear and extended her advantage with every stride thereafter. Never under any threat, she came home over nine lengths clear of nearest rival, Maura Beag Dubh in second. The time was a fast 29.04.
