HAT TRICK FOR TYRUR AT LIMERICK

HAT TRICK FOR TYRUR AT LIMERICK

Peter Farrell

It was an all graded affair at Limerick Greyhound Stadium last night but there was an extra special performance from Cloncunny Tyrur in race nine as the Nora O’Malley owned greyhound made it three wins on the spin.

A winner on the last race meeting prior to the stoppage in racing, Cloncunny Tyrur has maintained his fantastic run of form as he claimed his third succession victory at the Dock Road track. A winner last time out in a fast 28.98, the step up in grade didn’t cause too many issues for the James Roche trained brindle and white as he was fast away wearing stripes to take command entering the opening corner. There were some seasoned performers in behind ‘Tyrur’ heading into the back straight and one was Sporry Majestic but despite his best efforts, he wasn’t able to reel in the longtime leader. Two lengths in hand come the winning line, the time was a blistering 28.58, a rapidly improvement for the son of ‘Tyrur Big Mike - Chaotic Lynda’.

IMPRESSIVE ZETTE

Just prior to the above, Athlacca Zette posted a very fast 28.62 to break his duck in style for owner, Noel Neenan.

Despite some eye catching times in some of his early starts, Athlacca Zette was without a win but with his potential there to be seen, it was only a matter of time before he broke his duck. Well drawn in trap one, ‘Zette’ took full advantage to speed up the inside and take the race by the scruff of the neck. The son of ‘Pat C Sabbath - Athlacca Charm’ set a fierce gallop down the back straight and although the fast finishing Excess Power was in behind, there was little doubt that Athlacca Zette was to take home the win. Claiming a two length victory, the time was a red hot 28.62.

LUKE LANDS COMEBACK WIN

The final race of the evening was an A1 525 event and Vigourous Luke landed the spoils for joint owners, Ronny Wuyts and Larry O’Farrell.

Having his first race in fourteen months, Vigorous Luke would have been forgiven for having some serious track rust ahead of his comeback, however, this was far from the case. With the hare approaching it was track specialist Clearly Written who showed first and set a strong pace as he led into the back straight. Vigorous Luke had a nice pitch in second at this point and stepped up his efforts entering the bottom two corners. Those efforts were to prove decisive as on the run for home, the son of ‘Tullymurry Act - Cooladerry Fizz’ reeled in Clearly Written to claim a length a half victory in a nice time of 28.91. The winner returned a 3/1 shot.

OLE DOUBLES HIS TALLY

Another to dip under the 29 second barrier was Clounbrane Ole who landed race five in style for trainer, Patrick O’Connor.

Well away from trap one, Clounbrane Ole took control off the opening turn and maintained a strong gallop down the back straight. A winner on debut back in November 2019, the son of ‘Droopys Cain - Earls Diva’, owned by Myles Kearney, got back to winning ways as the 5/2 shot stayed on well to claim a two and a half length victory. The time was a fine 28.94.

BEE SHARP

Race three was a novice event and this was won in impressive fashion by the Michael O’Meara trained, Elms Bee.

An 8/13 market leader, Elms Bee was quickly intro stride from trap three to lead comfortably into the opening corner. Setting a fine pace down the back straight, the Martin Butler owned daughter of ‘Droopys Nidge - Twice Over’ tracked expertly around the bottom two corners and stayed on strong up the home straight. Claiming a four and a half length debut success, the time was a fast 28.98.
