DOUBLES ALL ROUND AT THURLES PARK

DOUBLES ALL ROUND AT THURLES PARK

Peter Farrell

There was a series of quality performances last night at Thurles Park and the highlight of the card were doubles for both the Britton and Morrissey kennels.

The first of the doubles to get off the ground came in race two as Alan Britton sent out Cloneen Valerie who bounced back from her debut defeat in good style. Quickly into stride yet again from trap one, the October 19’ daughter of Laughil Blake - Classic Venture went about her business in a professional fashion as she maintained a strong gallop throughout to come home a length a three parts clear of the fast finishing Miss Maisey in second. The time was an estimated 29.10.

The Britton double was completed at the tail end of the card as Cloneen Soldier came out the right side of a photo finish to seal a second career win. A winner of his last start in trap to line fashion, the son of Droopys Jet - Robeen Magic was only moderately away from trap four this time around and he had to overcome a bumpy ride in order to prevail. Making rapid progress from the halfway mark, Cloneen Soldier showed good determination to stay on best of all to seal a short-head victory over Champion Paul at the line. The time was 29.16.

ABIGAIL NOTCH'S FIRST WIN

Tina and Tommy Morrissey also recorded a litter double on the night and the first of those winners came in race five as Errill Daithi made it three career wins.

Breaking smartly from trap two, Errill Daithi disputed early on but had to play second fiddle to Hartford Master, who showed the superior early gears on the run to the opening turn. Holding a five length lead at this point, the race appeared to be signed, sealed and delivered with Errill Daithi appearing to have plenty of work on his plate in order to reel in the Hartford Master. However, Errill Daithi has shown his strong running abilities in previous starts and he was to showcase these one more as he ate into the lead with every stride, before powering clear to seal a two length victory. The time was a very smart 28.91.

The concluding race of the night saw the double secured as the Abigail Morrissey owned Toolate Shannon got back to winning ways with a comfortable victory. A pocket-sized tracker at just fifty-two pound weight, Toolate Shannon rocketed from trap three and she proceeded to take control rounding the opening turn. From here, the result was never in doubt as despite Whizzing Charlie keeping the leader honest for the majority of the contest, the daughter of Toolatetosell - Security came home three and a half lengths clear of Get In Front to record a career best time of 29.03. It was a first winner as an owner for young Abigail Morrissey and many more are sure to follow based on this lady’s performance last night.
