In what was an all graded affair at Galway Greyhound Stadium on Friday night, there was a special reason for celebration for a certain group of individuals as the newly formed, Four-Culchies syndicate got off to an unbeaten start with their promising greyhound Coolemount Boss.Handled by Michael & John Rafferty, Coolemount Boss is a young March 19’ whelp who had boasted a solid qualifying campaign prior to making his debut appearance. ( Pictured L-R are three members of the four-culchies syndicate, Joseph Keshan, Michael Rafferty & Sean Coughlan. The fourth member of the syndicate is Tom Carroll who wasn’t in attendance but will no doubt have the best seat in the house for Coolemount Boss’ next outing.) Heading to traps the 5/4 joint favourite, news had obviously spread as to his potential and from a level break, the promising black soon outpaced his rivals to surge into the opening turn clear. Once in control, the son of ‘Iso Octane - Coolemount Bally’ quickly set upon setting a frantic gallop down the back straight and opened a healthy, six length advantage. Tracking expertly out in front, the result was never in doubt for the ‘Boss’ and despite his stride shortening on the run for home, he was still over four lengths too good for his nearest rival, Tigerintempo in second. The time was a sharp 28.97 and the future certainly looks bright for this puppy who was bred by Gerry and Declan Merriman, no strangers to success themselves. It is certainly encouraging to see some new faces being introduced to greyhound racing and no doubt there are some exciting times ahead for the ‘Four Culchies’ syndicate.
