Barry Drake

The Red & White Collar Coursing Bred Sweep got underway in Tralee on Saturday night. A fantastic entry with 12 first-round heats.

Some of the standout performances are as follows:

Ballymac Rule (Newinn Wonder-Ballymac Town), for Liam Dowling, set the standard in heat eight, clocking 17.97 (0.50 slow) which was easily the quickest run of the session. In control heading into the opening corner, the winner really opened up on the turns for home and he pulled nine and a half lengths clear of Totellthetruth.

In the opening heat, Ballybeg Wonder (Newinn Wonder-Grandard Storm) impressed when posting 18.16. Daniel Buckley's runner flew from traps to make all of the running, three and a half lengths back to Carrigmore Robin in second.

In the fourth heat, Wallace Marie (Ballymac Best-Myleene) came out on top to win, in 18.18. Trained by John Moynihan for Brendan Matthews, the winner shot to the front just before the opening corner, quickly opening up, she pulled nine lengths clear of Testament, in 18.18.

In the fifth heat, Hot Dog (Newinn Wonder-Lineroad Lamar) scored in 18.26. Trained by Robert Green for owners Dermot and Abbie McCarthy, the winner was soon in control after getting off to a dream start. Always in control, he beat Ballymac Weston, by four lengths, in 18.26.
