A CABRA DOUBLE THE HIGHLIGHT AT THURLES

A CABRA DOUBLE THE HIGHLIGHT AT THURLES

Peter Farrell

Thurles Park hosted a twelve race card last night and the highlight of the night was a double for the ‘Cabra’ kennel as both Cabra Dawn and Cabra Tyson landed their respective contests.

Indeed, the fastest time of the night came in race eleven, an A2 525, in which Cabra Dawn (Over Limit - Cabra Millie) ran out a most impressive winner. Owned by Ava Scally, Cabra Dawn is a very consistent sort who was chasing a fifth win prior to last night’s race. Quickly into stride wearing the red jacket, it was clear from an early stage that this lady was going to take some catching. Taking a two length lead into the back, Borna Barney was the nearest challenger in second but in truth, Cabra Dawn was never under any threat as she stayed on stoutly to cross the line over three lengths of the aforementioned Borna Barney in behind. The time was a blistering estimate of 28.68.

In an earlier race Cabra Tyson had got the ball rolling for the Scally kennel as he landed an A7 525 contest in race six.

In what would prove to be a one-two for the Cabra greyhounds, Cabra Tyson broke well from trap three and the brindle tracked smartly to take a healthy lead into the back straight. The result never in much doubt thereafter, the son of Kinloch Brae - Cabra Ellie stayed on strongly in the closing yards to cross the line seven lengths clear of kennel companion Cabra Air in second. The time was 29.38.

HON THE JET MAKES IT BACK-TO-BACK WINS

There was an open 330 contest in race five and this was landed by Hon The Jet who followed up on his last outing success to make it back-to-back wins in style.

Owned by the Slye Crew syndicate, Hon The Jet was bullet-like at traps as his orange jacket rocketed into the opening corner with a clear advantage. Trouble in behind contributed to this being a straightforward night’s work thereafter for Hon The Jet and he duly bolted up the Thurles straight to record a five and a half length win. The time was a slick 17.74.

FOURTEEN NOT OUT FOR MAGICAL JASPER

There were no surprises in race ten as Magical Jasper recorded another win at Thurles Park to bring his career tally to a brilliant fourteen wins.

Owned by Alice Guilfoyle and trained by Pat Guilfoyle, Magical Jasper is something of a track specialist at Thurles and he once again displayed his strong running abilities to land the spoils. It was Thunder Blue who led early from trap four and he took the field into the back straight, with Magical Jasper beginning to creep into contention back in third. Taking control at the crown of penultimate turn however, the consistent son of Head Bound - Laughil Louise tracked well between the bottom two bends and showed all of his staying power close home. Two lengths clear of another fast finisher in Free From Desire in second, the time for Magical Jasper was a brilliant 28.76.
