RAMSBOTTOM MEMORIAL CAN ALLOW YOUNGSTERS TO SHINE

Ian Fortune

The opening round of the Billy & Mary Ramsbottom Memorial ON2 gets underway at Kilkenny this evening and it should provide the starting point or a number of promising youngsters.

Given the nature of the event, picking winners is far from easy but needless to say, many will improve greatly on their qualifying form. It’s no surprise to see Karol Ramsbottom chasing the prize and he has a couple of interesting runners. Sober Secret races from trap one in Heat 2 and may actually struggle to get into the traps as he weighed in at 94lbs in his latest qualifying trial.

His litter brother Sober Hero lines out in the stripes in Heat 3 and is also respected, although there are a few well-bred sorts on view in this contest. One of the more likely winners is Kiso Uma in Heat 4. The son of Ballymac Best and former top racer Aayamza Royale posted 29.49 in his latest qualifying trial and can improve further.

We’ll report on the best of the action in the morning. The full form can be found here: https://www.grireland.ie/racing/upcoming-race-cards/upcoming-race-card-summary/?track=KKY&id=108951&date=31-May-2024
