BALLYHIMIKINFRED, just an October puppy, put on a very taking performance in Youghal's closing race on Wednesday night.
The track was clearly in good order, but there was a lot to like about the 28.95 winning performance. In what looked like an above-average A3/A4 contest, the winner just had enough early dash to slip around the opening turns in front.
Nonevernomore, another promising sort, was hot on his heels heading down the back straight. However, Ballyhimikinfred kept finding in front, railing tightly up the home straight, the son of Definate Opinion and Soho Ark came home with three and a half lengths to spare over Nonevernomore, in 28.95, winning for Billy Dunne.
Derek Kehoe's Slaneyside Shep was another to break the magical 29-second barrier when winning the tenth, a highly competitive A0-A1 event.
A June puppy, he led early and found plenty to fend off the bang-in-form Cavies Honey. A classy performance from the 8-1 outsider. A length between the front two at the line, in 28.91.
