STAYERS CORNER – TIGER ROARS AT SHELBOURNE

STAYERS CORNER – TIGER ROARS AT SHELBOURNE

Ian Fortune

The wonderful sight of stayers in action lit up proceedings at Shelbourne Park on Tuesday night as the A3/A9 Novice 750 got underway.

Fastest of the four heats winners was Andrew Weldon’s Bows Hill Tiger as he opened his account in style, displaying plenty of guts and determination as well as stamina to post 42.38 in the third of the four heats.

As a half brother to former TV trophy winner Bumblebee Bullet it was no surprise to see the son of Sh Avatar and Dundrum Pearl seeing out the trip but he was kept honest by Minnies Kursk. Bows Hill Tiger wasn’t going to be denied, however, and after looking under pressure around the last two bends, he stayed on up the straight to win by a length.

GAGA ON TUNE

Next fastest was Clonmullen Gaga, who emerged a facile winner of Heat 2.

Paul and Thomas Cronin’s well bred son of Droopys Sydney and Samiya was always in complete control once moving to the front in the early yards and he ran out a comfortable six length winner over Dreenen Bobby in 42.70.

ROCKET TAKES OFF

Tommy Mahoney’s Gymstar Rocket claimed a third career victory in the final heat when outstaying her rivals.

The daughter of Droopys Jet and Pookies Pronto hit the front entering the home straight on the opening lap and proceeded to see off Beaming Ricardo by two and a half lengths in 42.97.

JASS DIGS IN

The opening heat was a war of attrition with Grangeview Jass taking her opportunity as long-time leader Plum Tree folded in the closing stages.

Colm Wilson’s Grangeview Jass (Skywalker Puma/ Grangeview Vicie) stayed on to secure a two length victory over Quizmaster Edie in 43.23.
