Last night saw Thurles Park host a ten race card which was originally penciled in for last Saturday night and the highlight on the program was a couple of nice spins over the 330 yard distance.
The fastest return on the night came in race eight as the lightly raced Eleco recorded his first career win for joint owners Brian Loughnane and Peter Moynihan. A greyhound who has clearly been carefully managed based on his card, Eleco was on the ball last night as he came away racing from trap six to lead his rivals into the opening corner. Sweeping the opening bend, the well bred son of Ballymac Eske - Coolavanny Park rallied into the home straight and stayed on well to score by two and a half lengths over Archgrove Ronnie in second. The time was a swift 17.83.
FINE DISPLAY FROM ACTIVE
Another canine to catch the eye last night was a puppy in the shape of Active Display who went on to land race three with relative ease.
Owned by John Commins, Active Display failed to land a blow in her first two starts but those runs have served her well as she comprehensively put this 330 yard contest to bed. Taking a ping break from trap one, Active Display was a cut above her rivals on the run to the opening corner and the daughter of Laughil Blake - Active Air went about her business in fine style thereafter. Coming home a clear, eight length winner, the time was a fast 17.88.
BOB QUICKEST OVER THE STANDARD
Over the standard distance, the fastest return on the night came in the final race of the night as Bob The Lad produced a strong running display to come through runners.
Owned by Tom White, Bob The Lad already boasted a sub 29 second run at Thurles Park but he had to bide his time as Allowdale Shelly led early on from Rackethall Zoe in second. However, showing fine dash in behind, Bob The Lad stuck to his task well before tracking expertly around the bottom two bends. From here, the son of Droopys Jet - Liosgarbh Else stayed on best of all to score by two and a half lengths. The time was 29.11.
Another greyhound who warrants a mention based on last night’s exploits is Wise Eruption (Confident Rankin - Volcano) who scored over the extended 570 yard trip.
A very consistent bitch, Wise Eruption was chasing a fifth career win last night and the Edward Hayde and Dan Carrie owned black got the better of Meduza in an exciting finish. Meduza, of course, has some stunning form in Clonmel so you could be forgiven for thinking the race was over once John Bryne’s runner led early from trap four. However, Wise Eruption was a thorn in the side throughout and the extra yards proved vital as she collared Meduza on the line. A head separating the duo after a great buckle, the time was a fine calculated 31.09.
