Limerick hosted their regular SIS meeting last night and there was a notable performance for the Martins-Gang syndicate owned, Sheriff who posted a brilliant 28.59 on going that was rated as 10 fast.
A real consistent greyhound, Sheriff has finished on the podium on fourteen of his eighteen career starts but that night was certainly a career best effort from the June 18’ son of Ballymac Eske - Cat Girl. Stepping down a grade to A2 company, Sheriff was on the receiving end of a ping break from trap four and it became pretty obvious early on that the contest was to be a one dog affair. Flying around the opening corner, Sheriff extended his advantage throughout before storming up the home straight to record a nine length victory. The time, as reported, was a sizzling 28.59 .10f.
COSARD BACK TO WINNING WAYS
One other greyhound dipped under the 29 second barrier on the night and it came in the A1 525 where Cosard Wonder ensured another syndicate winner came home in front.
Owned by D-G-R syndicate, Cosard Wonder recorded a fabulous 28.56 .15f on his last win at Limerick and despite finding it tough in recent starts, the son of Confident Rankin - Buffys Girl got back to winning ways in style last night. It was Varra Biddy who broke best of all from trap three and he led around the opening corner, with Cosard Wonder a length behind in second. Stepping it up a gear midway down the back, Cosard Wonder joined the leader and there was little to separate the duo rounding the bottom two bends. However, the superior stamina shone through for Cosard Wonder in the closing stages as he stayed on strongly up the straight to win by a length and a half in 28.78.
IN OTHER RACES
Beaming Petal broke her maiden duck in race six as she ran out a convincing winner for owner, Pauline Ryan. Breaking smartly from trap two, the choicely bred daughter of Droopys Roddick - Beaming Olive ran a brilliant opening bend to put daylight between herself and the second placed runner Clarina Queen. Striding out impressively thereafter, there was three and a half lengths to separate the duo at the winning line. The time was a good 29.06 .10f.
In race three veteran performer Sheedy Sky (Skywalker Puma - Ciss Baby) notched her seventh career win as he ran out a two length winner for owner John Ryan. A September 16’ whelp, this lady hadn’t tasted victory since June but she was to put that right last night after a smart break from trap five saw her take a comfortable lead into the opening corner. Coming in as a reserve, Sheedy Sky showed good determination throughout and held off the strong running Joe Be Slick to record a decent 29.09 .10f.
View Champ made it two wins from as many starts in race five as he came from off the pace to claim victory for owner John Whelan. At traprise it was Burning Candle who flew from trap three to lead early on from View Champ, who sealed a rails pitch in blue. Showing a brilliant turn of pace down the back straight, the Donal Cooney trained View Champ quickly took control and despite Burning Candle coming back for more late on, the son of SH Avatar - Peerless Trio recorded a half length victory from the fast finishing Hawkeye Supreme in second. The time was 29.10 .10f.
One greyhound riding the crest of a wave at present is Chestnut Clint and he made it four wins on the trot for the Chestnut syndicate in race seven. Training by Paraic Campion, Chestnut Clint has been extremely consistent at traps in recent starts and he was quickly into stride once more from trap one to lead early doors last night. Once in front, the son of Laughil Blake - Playmostyforme, a June 18’ whelp, made every post a winning one to gallop to a three length victory. The time was 29.15 .10f.
