BLACK MALIBU recorded the quickest time of the year at Youghal on Wednesday night.
Sally O'Donovan's powerfully lady normally comes from behind but on this occasion, she led around the opening turns.
Flying down the back straight, the 3-1 shot pulled three lengths clear to the second last corner. Pulling awayr up the home straight, it went down as a sensational winning performance, seven and a half lengths clear of Murleys Reel, in a top-class, 28.68, in the A2 event.
Bones made it an O'Donovan double when putting on a strong performance in the seventh, an A0-A1, at odds of even money.
Canvas Pip took them along early, but the well-fancied favourite always looked dangerous in third. Doing his best running on the home straight, he flew home to beat the early leader, by two lengths, in 29.16.
Following up on her recent success, Cavies Honey delivered a career-best performance in the tenth, an A2.
Taking over from Hollyhill Magic at the third bend, Bernie Connolly's 3-1 winner showed huge staying power to pull five lengths clear of the running-on Canvas Darcy, in 28.81.
BRIGHT FUTURE AHEAD
Druids Mary Lou produced a stunning 29.18 winning performance in the opener.
Owned by John Brennan, Dungarvan, the October puppy showed exceptional early gears and she stayed on powerfully to beat Dower Max, by nine lengths, in 29.18. Clearly very talented, the winner has a bright future ahead.
EASY FOR BUCKS
Going back to Monday night, Churchtown Bucks was the star of the show, winning for trainer Denis Fitzgerald and owner Mick Crotty.
He destroyed a good field, moving clear from an early stage, to win the A1/A2, in 28.83.
