HIGH CLASS PERFORMANCES AT YOUGHAL TRACK

HIGH CLASS PERFORMANCES AT YOUGHAL TRACK

Barry Drake

There were several high-class performances in Youghal on Wednesday night.

Witches Phoenix, a daughter of Head Bound-Witches Belle, secured an eighth career in the feature open event. Tuckeys Charm was the warm favourite but he lost all hope after stumbling from traps. The 3-1 winner, who is owned and trained by Liam Twomey, Lisgoold, sat in midfield early but showing massive gears on the turns for home, she then came alongside leader Beatbytheboro. Strongest late on, she scored by a length from the early pacesetter, in a really quick, 29.02.

ALL THE WAY

Philipstown Bid made it five wins from twelve outings with a marvellous display of pace to take race eight, an A2.

Bouncing out in front, the 11-4 shot set a strong early pace. Chirpys Gang looked dangerous approaching the final corner but the winner maintained the scorching pace to beat Chirpys Gang, by a length and a half, in a top-class, 28.96, winning for trainer Kevin McLean and owner Bridget Barry, Clonmel.

MADE ALL

Fairhill Corney, owned by Julia O'Neill, Cork, posted a quick 29.03 when making all to win race 10, an A3. Showing huge early gears, the 5-2 chance quickly moved clear.

At the line, he was two lengths clear, in a brilliant, 29.02. Slaneyside Marly catching the eye in second. A sparkling performance from the improving youngster.

DEREK KEHOE DOUBLE

Slaneyside Ashly completed a Derek Kehoe double with another stunning front display to win race 11, an A2. All the way, in 28.95.

It was another high-class performance from the in-form 10-3 winner. In a line-up full of early pace, Slaneyside Ashly easily won that early battle. It was the second quickest time ever to the third corner. A real likeable performance from the classy youngster.

SMART YOUNGSTER

While in the closing race, Castlerock Sally was another to catch the eye.

The 2-1 shot, for the kennel of Michael Cummins, showed plenty of all-round pace to get the better of Rising Comet, by four lengths, in 29.03. A rapidly improving youngster.
