Thurles Park hosted their rescheduled Saturday card last night and the highlight was a fine double for the kennel of Pat Guilfoyle as his greyhounds Magical Jasper and Explosive Boy ran out comfortable winners.

Both greyhounds took part in the two standout races on the card, these being the AO/A1 570 and the SO/S1 330 and the duo produced very polished performances in landing the spoils for their respective connections. Magical Jasper was first up in race seven and he avenged his defeat to Wise Eruption last time out as ran out a convincing winner over the latter, who was forced to settle for second. Well away from trap three, Magical Jasper tucked in behind Cabra Luna early on before taking charge off the second bend. From here, it was one way traffic for the strong running son of Head Bound - Laughil Louise and Alice Guilfoyle’s greyhound was over four lengths too good at the winning line. The time was a very slick 31.06 with Wise Eruption and Meduza occupying the minor placings.

The double was completed in the very next race as Explosive Boy also reversed form with Cabra Ava, who had gotten the better of Explosive Boy last time out.

Owned by Peter Sutcliffe and trained by Pat Guilfoyle, the National Puppy finalist wasn’t too well away at boxes but showed phenomenal early speed from trap five to outpace his rivals into the opening corner. Like his kennel companion, Explosive Boy was in total control of the outcome thereafter and he was faultless in storming across the line three and a half lengths clear. A big year expected from the son of Good News - Delightful Girl, the time was a rapid 17.80.

The fastest time over the standard trip came in the final race of the night as regular winner Allowdale Shelly recorded her ninth career victory.

Owned by the VHR syndicate and trained by Paraic Campion, Allowdale Shelly was swiftly into stride as she pinged out of trap three to lead early on. Maintaining a powerful gallop down the back straight, the gap extended and Allowdale Shelly was in no mood to hang around. A seven and a half length winner over nearest rival, Killenaulerocket in second, the time was a smart 28.90.

The Peter Barry owned Marks Pearl notched her first career win in race five as she came from behind to win in style.

A member of a very useful litter, Marks Pearl was quickly into stride wearing the striped jacket and followed trap one, Shevry Cross around the opening corner. However, showing fine dash down the back straight, the daughter of Droopys Cain - Glideaway Pearl got back on terms and took over rounding the penultimate corner. From here, the impressive black ran out a one and a half length winner over the fast finishing Spanish Hero in second. The time was 29.09.

There was one other eye-catching performance on the night and this came in race six as Trap Joey (Droopys Jet - Mt Heaton Daisy) maintained a decent run of form to get up late.

Owned by Karen Murphy, Trap Joey was well away from trap four but was in good company entering the opening bend as both Hon The Jet and Errill Tarzan disputed the lead. However, steering a wide course rounding the bottom two bends, Trap Joey powered up the home straight and finished best of all to get the nod by a head, on line. Hon The Jet had to settle for second as the time returned 17.92.
