Given the future success of greyhounds that have appeared in unraced stakes at Enniscorthy over the years, it was very apt that Couldbegreat set the standard in the opening round of the All Pet Supplies Unraced on Monday evening.
A well bred son of Droopys Jet and College Jade he was actually a bit tardy at boxes but displayed fine early dash to lead on the corner. Once doing so, John Kearney’s October ’19 whelp drew further and further clear to eventually win by an ever-improving sixteen lengths over Half Miler in a brilliant 28.93 (rated .20 slow).
To highlight the quality of the display, John Byrne’s Old Chestnut (Jaytee Jet/ Droopys Breeze) made all to win the second heat in 29.44, Daniel Frayne’s Airplane Dano won Heat 3 in similar fashion, coming home clear in 29.46, while the final heat saw John Toft’s Cosy Misty was always prominent in the final heat before getting up on the line to chin Ushers Leo by a head in 29.39.
It’s clear Couldbegreat is a very bright prospect and is on to keep an eye on in the coming weeks and months.
