MAGIC MOLLY LANDS A PUNT IN TOWCESTER

Ian Fortune

There were a total of nine Irish trained winners in the second round of the Star Sports/ TRC English Greyhound Derby but one in particular left a mark as far as the sponsors were concerned.

Singalong Molly landed what would have to be described as a good old-fashioned gamble when coming home clear in Heat 12 on Saturday night.

Speaking to the Racing Post on Saturday night after the action, Star Sports on-course layer Kaan Hughes described how Singalong Molly was the worst possible result.

As quoted in the Racing Post:

Heat 12 and the race that could make or break us (we’ve been broken many times, so far). The second part of that £2000 double on Ballinabola Joe, where £7000 was running on to Singalong Molly at 3/1 taken yesterday. She’s been smashed up all day, she’s opened 11/8 and we are still laying her, £2400 one of those bets to be precise.

Hold on to your hats, you think that’s bad having one in the book losing us nearly £30k. Betting without has just got lively. Val Tashadelek evens without, only 2/1, look at the value! Not a bean, they have had lumps on Droopys Metaphor who had completely collapsed and I’ve got that for £7890. Hare’s running!

Away they go and top and bottom to follow, something from the middle just come out. Two and Five heads appear, three and four woeful to the corner, oh great surge of pace into the bend one is leading round, he has to go clear, oh my word who’s second, it’s Molly, we know she stays all day. This isn’t good. Lofty get the car running, we need cash, let’s do a Del Boy and get on our toes. One’s strides shortening Molly's about to hit the front, sinking feeling, these downs are hurtful, something help us for second or we could do nearly 40k here, they’re all coming, small mercies, he’s forced to check at the third and the without us beat. We’ve copped £1500. Ah yes, we’ve done £25k the other side. Stare into the Towcester sunset, scratch your head, ponder the scenario.”

All we have to say is well done to whoever got the majority of the winnings. As Hannibal in the A-Team would say, I love it when a plan comes together.
