KILKENNY REDEVELOPMENT SET TO COMMENCE

Ian Fortune

Kilkenny has been a real success story in recent years with big crowds and a thriving betting market, allied with superb action over all grades.

It’s for this reason that a redevelopment of the St James Park venue has been given the go ahead and is set to commence in the coming days.

The wonderful news was announced by those involved in the track this morning. The statement can be seen below. On behalf of all involved in the sport, we can’t wait to see the new Kilkenny track in the near future.

The statement can be seen below:

Kilkenny Track is delighted to announce that a major redevelopment of the Stadium will now commence within the next week. For the past number of years, talks have been ongoing with Greyhound Racing Ireland, the Department of Agriculture and the Kilkenny County Council and an agreement has finally been reached which will see a significant €1.5 million overhaul of current facilities.

It’s wonderful news for the greyhound Industry, especially the greyhound supporters from Kilkenny, Carlow, Laois and further afield who frequent the Stadium on a regular basis. Following on from the redevelopment of Shelbourne Park, it’s another show of confidence and support for the Greyhound Industry and a chance to further develop greyhound racing in Kilkenny.

While construction is ongoing, Wednesday and Friday racing and all trial times will continue as normal. However, there is going to be disruption and facilities are going to be limited. We trust track patrons will be understanding of this and appreciate that this will eventually result in a modernised facility which the patrons of Kilkenny Track will be proud to showcase.
