This Friday will see eight opening round heats of the €20,000 to the winner Kasko National Produce Stakes get underway at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium and, as expected, it has attracted a top-class entry.

The draw for the opening round heats of the Classic was made at 11am on Tuesday morning and there are no shortage of standout names bidding to land the prestigious event. Whyaye Bonnylad is the reigning IGOBF National Puppy Champion and the Robert Gleeson-trained star looks a leading player despite being unable to rediscover his superb form towards the tail-end of 2023. Another outright player is kennel companion Droopys Metaphor and he will be seeking a hat-trick of victories when descending onto Clonmel this Friday after securing back-to-back wins in 28.31 and 28.36 at Shelbourne Park. Untold Dollar started his career at Clonmel and recorded a slick 28.41 before venturing across the pond where he really made an imprint. Unbeaten in four UK starts, the Graham Holland-trained tracker landed the Puppy Derby at Monmore and the Puppy Cup at Hove and if reproducing that form on home soil, he is surely one of the outright favourites. One of the most intriguing stakes on the Irish Greyhound racing calendar is the Rural Kennels Unraced, also held at Clonmel, and the 2024 renewal was landed in fine style by Romeo Taylor. The son of Newinn Taylor returns to the Suirside venue this weekend in an attempt to add more silverware to his locker, however, he must contend with kennel companion and recent Kirby finalist, Romeo Kingpin. Both have been drawn in a very tricky heat four, a contest that also includes the Corona Ryan-owned Beaming Panther. Brendan Maunsell landed this event in 2018 with the incredible Cash Is King and he will be represented by recent Tralee track record breaker In Good Time. The son of Droopys Sydney clocked an exceptional 27.91 at the start of May and prior to that he was also a Kirby semi finalist at Limerick.

Aside from the aforementioned stars, there is talent oozing out of this brilliant Classic and while the outright frontrunners are sure to go close, don’t rule out the likes of recent eye-catchers, Green Brigade, Cazador, Bockos Wazza, Clona King and Silverhill Ben as the competition progresses.
