JOHN DEVER

Ian Fortune

The Irish greyhound racing community was in shock over the weekend with the sad news of John Dever’s passing. In particular, those involved in the Dublin greyhound community would have been saddened by one of its most popular members.

For many years, John was a permanent fixture at both Harolds Cross and Shelbourne Park, owning many greyhounds in those years. Of course, he was also a great friend and ally to hall of fame trained Gerry Melia and walked many of his greatest trackers.

More importantly, John was a good man. A true gent, he had a word for everyone and really did love the sport. He also passed on his love for the sport to his son Jonathan who owns a number of decent trackers. John’s absence from the track will be noted by anyone that frequents Shelbourne Park in particular. We would like to send on our sincerest condolences to his wife Ann, his sons Francis and Jonathan, his beloved grandchildren Mia, Megan, Liam, Rian and Oran, sisters Joan and Eleanor, brothers Peter, Alfred, Mick, Brendan, Declan and Conor, extended family and many friend in the sport. May he Rest In Peace.
