After winning her second round and semi-final assignments in typically professional fashion, it was no surprise to see Fairly Giddy complete her impressive march through the April Stakes at Enniscorthy on Thursday night.
Again displaying wonderful early speed to make every inch.
Sent top traps the 5-2 joint second favourite, Margaret Stafford’s daughter of Cushie Jet and Sweet Itch rocketed from trap five before shooting clear into the turn. A 3.11 sectional was evidence of her alacrity from boxes.
It was clear she was going to take some catching, although it was also no surprise that she did tire a little on the run in. Tip Top Bundee gave chase in the early stages and repelled the challenge of the chasing pack into the third turn.
This allowed Fairly Giddy to maintain her clear advantage around the last two bends but her stride definitely began to shorten as they turned for home. In a tremendous finish, Fairly Giddy dug deep to hold Tip Top Bundee by a short head in 29.14 with Pandereto and Bust The Tins just a half-length and the same distance away in third and fourth.
