Kindly sponsored by Fast Trap Greyhound Supplies, the opening-round heats of the Fast Trap A5/A6 525 feature take centre stage at Galway Greyhound Stadium tonight, with four heats up for decision in the €1,400-to-the-winner competition.
The opening heat sees a narrow vote going the way of Five Alley Mike, owned by Paul Hogan. Lightly raced for a May ’23 whelp, the son of Ballymac Best has already posted a 29.30 best around the Connacht circuit and caught the eye last time out when finishing strongly in testing conditions. Well housed in trap three, ‘Mike’ looks poised to gain early advantage and could prove difficult to reel in.
Banter Bonnie shaped with promise when finishing an eye-catching second on her most recent Galway outing. The young Pestana bitch, owned by Peadar and Sarah O’Dwyer, showed real determination to recover from a hopeless position and is likely to benefit from a much-improved draw in the blue. She has the scope to shed her maiden tag at the seventh time of asking.
Heat three appears particularly competitive, but preference is given to Burkos Breeze. Amy Burke’s fawn steps back up in trip after an unlucky run last time and could be prominent early. She will need to be sharp, however, with strong finishers such as Leavethattome and Ballyhale Evan expected to close late.
The concluding heat features Candys Widget, who represents Donal Duggan and may find this slight drop in grade to his liking. Drawn in five, the son of Skywalker Canny made virtually every yard before being collared late by Springwell Eddy on his latest start. A similar performance should see him go very close this time around.
