Sponsors Boylesports have introduced Explosive Boy as their clear favourite for Derby glory next weekend with the Pat Guilfoyle trained star a 2-1 chance to come home in front.
Of course, the firm do have liabilities on the Produce Stakes champion but, given his favourable draw in four, it’s no surprise to see him head the market.
After their wonderful performances in Saturday’s semi-finals, Susie Sapphire and All About Ted are both 3-1 to continue their winning ways. Susie Sapphire is bidding to create a little bit of history by becoming the first bitch this century to land the classic, while also bidding to become the first winner since College Causeway to march through the competition unbeaten.
It would be an incredible feat given her age. All About Ted is bidding to hand Peter Cronin his first Derby success and he certainly seems to be reaching the very peak of his powers at just the right time.
After suffering defeat for the very first time in this year’s Derby in the semis, Jackslittlething is 7-2 to score. Should he emerge triumphant in five days, he would be handing Graham Holland an incredible third Derby victory in a row.
Singalong Sally has been installed a 12-1 chance. As with Susie Sapphire, she is bidding to become the first bitch since Spring Time in 1999 to land the blue riband, while also hoping to hand Pat Buckley his second Irish Derby after the aforementioned College Causeway.
Carrigeen North completes the line-up at 25-1. He too is still a puppy and is a first Derby finalist for Thomas Buggy after having a semi-finalist in three of the four previous years without making it to the final dance.
