DAVY TRAYNOR

Ian Fortune

Greyhound racing lost a true friend in recent days with the passing of Davy Traynor after an illness. Davy was a staple in Irish greyhound racing over the last few decades with his famed ‘Lodgefield’ prefix carried by so many stars through the years.

A talented man with a dog, he was also a breeder of some renown and was responsible for countless top-class greyhounds during his long, extinguished time in greyhound racing. As a person, he was known by so many in the sport. A regular at Newbridge, Harold’s Cross and Shelbourne Park, he was a great character, a man that was never short of a word and the best of company.

Even as his health declined in recent times, he kept his interest in the sport and is sure to leave a legacy with so many top trackers going back to his ‘Lodgefield’ bloodlines, while his daughter Jennifer is still very involved in the sport.

The track just won’t be the same without Davy and we would likely to take this opportunity to send our condolences to his daughter Jennifer, sons Mark and Derek, his beloved grand-children Chloe, Tadgh, Hallie, Charlie and Arlo, his brother Ronnie, extended family and great many friends. Davy will be greatly missed. May He Rest In Peace.
