CORK TO HOST FUNDRAISER FOR 4 YEAR OLD KATIE

GRI

On Saturday 8th June, Cork’s Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium will host a fundraiser in aid of a very special little girl, Katie O’Keefe.

Katie and her family moved home to Ireland from Australia last year to be closer to family and within months were dealt a blow as Katie was diagnosed with a rare illness with limited treatment options available to them here in Ireland.

On Saturday 8th June, Cork’s Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium will host a fundraiser in aid of a very special little girl, Katie O’Keefe.

Katie and her parents, Siobhan and Kevin, from Bartlemy in North Cork, were told early this year that Katie had a highly aggressive brain tumour, a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), which occurs in an area of brain stem called bons which controls the body’s most vital functions such as balance, breathing and heart rate. Unfortunately surgery is not an option and there is no cure, however radiation treatment is recommended.

Ireland has very little to offer patients diagnosed with DIPG & with a prognosis of less than a year & the only option of treatment being radiation therapy which may improve symptoms in some cases the family have had to look outside of Ireland for other treatment options. The medical treatment overseas has shown success in the clinical trial stages at slowing down the tumours growth, however medical treatment overseas comes at a very high cost.

To support Katies Family with the expense of this treatment, her family and friends have gathered to run this fundraising event which can be supported in many ways:
