There is little doubt that as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial was the biggest casualty on the Irish greyhound racing calendar during 2020.
However, the richest juvenile event in the world is back for 2021 and it promises to deliver some top-class action throughout the course of March and April at Limerick Greyhound Stadium.
Kindly sponsored by JP and Noreen McManus, the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial 525 is one of the feature events of the calendar year and the 2021 showpiece will celebrate its 8th year in running. Won by some of the best in training in years gone by, the 2019 event was landed by the Robert Gleeson-trained Toolmaker Josie as he sprung a 6/1 upset to claim the fantastic €80,000 winner’s prize.
Like previous running’s, the Sean O’Connor Cup will also be going ahead and this stake offers a very nice consolation to greyhounds who are eliminated in the opening rounds of the event. Full details on both stakes are outlined below and details on the Trial Stakes, which will be run up and down the Country prior to the main event, can be found on ‘Talking Dogs’ from tomorrow morning.
