Galway hosted a ten-race card last night and the highlight of the session was a brilliant double for the kennel of Rachel Wheeler as both Midfield Deano and in particular Bricks Trump scored impressive victories.

The first leg of the double came in race seven as Bricks Trump justified his 5/4 price tag to seal a third career win for the P-J syndicate. Trained by Rachel Wheeler, the April 19’ whelp hadn’t managed a win since March of this year but he was to produce a career-best effort last night in Galway. Quickly into stride from trap two, Bricks Trump had Puck Out for company early on but he soon displayed the superior early gears to take a healthy lead into the back straight. From here, the well-bred son of Droopys Jet and Basket Of Trumps drew clear of his rivals and he showed no signs of fading in the closing stages. Crossing the line five and a half lengths too good for nearest rival, Puck Out, the time was a brisk 28.77.

The double was completed in race nine as Midfield Deano also brought his career tally to three wins in an A2 550.

Owned by John Newman and trained by Rachel Wheeler, Midfield Deano had impressed at Clonmel in a recent outing but the 3/1 chance looked to have plenty on his plate last night after a poor start from trap one. However, showing brilliant courage at the opening corner, Midfield Deano held his rails pitch to nestle in behind Calm Surprise heading down the back and he quickly stormed to the front between the bottom two bends. Staying on powerfully thereafter, the son of Droopys Sydney and Midfield Diva proved three lengths too good for Calm Surprise in second as the clock returned 30.33.

Race six saw William Powell notch a win as Willbex Mayfly, a veteran April 17’ whelp, scored a fourth career triumph. Installed a 4/1 outsider for victory, the daughter of Ballymac Vic and Jaxx Party Time bolted from trap three and she never saw another tail as she romped to a five and a half length success over Grandadsprincess in second. The time was 29.19.

Mr Quiz Master (Skywalker Farloe - Ripley Diana) broke his maiden tag in race eight as he finished well for the Toi-Toi-Toi syndicate and trainer Thomas Connor. After a poor start from trap four, Mr Quiz Master had some six lengths to make up on Bumblebee Lana out front and he motored well around the bottom two bends to strike the front in the dying stages of the contest. A half length winner over the gallant Bumblebee Lana in second, the time was 29.16.

The final race of the night saw another win for Wee Small Hours as he recorded a sixth career win for owner Patrick O’Loughlin. The consistent brindle is never too far away and his record is proof of this having only been out of the top three on eight of his thirty starts to date. Heading to traps 4/1 chance, Wee Small Hours didnt come away too well from six as Derrymoyle Pat set the pace rounding the opener and into the back straight. However, Wee Small Hours was tracking the leader in behind and the son of Ballymac Eske and Pats Black Lady struck the front between the bottom two bends to run out a comfortable winner in the end. Two and a half lengths clear of Letsgetcracking in second, the time was a good 29.04.
