Gerry Holian has a fine crop of greyhounds at his disposal of late and he looks to have unmasked another smart sort as Long Santiago made it back-to-back in fine style last night at Galway Greyhound Stadium.

Jointly owned by Tom and PJ Quinn, Long Santiago qualified in well before romping to a debut success in a swift 19.02. However, lining out in an S3 contest last night, the September 19’ son of Droopys Sydney - Bangla Road further enhanced his credentials as a pup whose stock is very much on the rise. Drawn in trap two, Long Santiago broke smartly wearing the blue jacket and showing terrific early dash in the opening yards, Holian’s charge flew into the opening corner with clear daylight. From here, it was a matter of how far and Long Santiago maintained a strong gallop all the way to the winning line to record a six and a half length win. The time was a brisk 18.94.

Elsewhere on the card there was another very smart performance from Standing Proud in race nine, a 575-yard event.

Owned by the No-Cents syndicate, Standing Proud’s last victory came over the extended 575-yard trip and he showed once again his power in taking control early on. Quickly into stride from trap two, the well-made son of Candlelight King - Mollrose Queen broke fast and showed the superior early dash on the long run to the corner to turn clear of Cloneyogan Jet in second. It was one-way traffic thereafter as Standing Ovation maintained a powerful gallop to extend his lead around the bottom two bends before coming home four and a half lengths clear of Cloneyogan Jet. The time was a slick 31.61.
