RODDICK MAKES IT THREE WINS ON THE SPIN AT GALWAY

Peter Farrell

It was an all graded affair at Galway Greyhound Stadium last night as there was a ten race card on show. There were a number of eye-catching displays on the night with the pick being Caislean Roddick who made it three wins on the spin.

Trained by Gerry Holian, Caislean Roddick was chasing three wins on the trot after two hard fought victories at the Connacht venue but last night’s performance was a little more straight forward. Owned by Kevin Connolly, Caislean Roddick was chasing an eighth career win and he was well on his way as he flew from trap three to show all of his early gears and lead into the opening corner. A length to the good at the second bend, the son of ‘Droopys Roddick - Ballyregan Rach’ was in full control at this point as he extended his lead to five lengths and was striding out impressively approaching the bottom two corners. Showing no signs of taking his paw off the gas with the winning line in sight, Caislean Roddick duly scored by an dominating seven lengths from Headleys Victor in second. The time was a career best 28.85 and this greyhound is in the form of his life.

SWEET MELODY

Earlier in the night there was another hugely impressive performance from the 4/7 favourite, Headleys Melody.

Owned by Seamus Leahy and Stephen Dillon, Headleys Melody is a young September 18’ whelp who is certainly heading in the right direction. Two from two now after a brilliant 29.26 debut win, ‘Melody’ was sweetly away from trap six and the impressive daughter of ‘Pat C Sabbath - Headford Fantasy’ galloped into the opening corner at her leisure with trap one, Mythical Enya, her nearest challenger in second. However, the result was never in doubt once turning in front as this classy bitch flew around the bottom corners to account for a near four length victory over Paradise Asia who claimed second. The time was another swift 28.85.

MOE’S BACK

Elsewhere on the card Gofast Moe caught the eye as a greyhound who is returning to his very best for owners Michael Connor and Eric O’Flaherty.

Without a win since December of 2019, Gofast Moe was away quite well from trap four but Wilbrook Caramel was the early leader from trap five. Very little separating the duo entering the back straight, the latter pulled away early on but was to be collared by the time we reached the penultimate corner. Railing like a cat at this point, Gofast Moe edged in front and from here, the son of ‘Ballyana Foxtrot - Dooey Ace’ pulled clear to run out a length winner. The time for the 3/1 shot was a smart 29.07
