Last night’s Clonmel card featured the start of two Novice stakes in the form of the ‘March ON3 525’ and the ‘Spring Unraced ON2 525’. Two greyhounds stood out in particular in the heats as Cushie Pedro and Nitro Jen both dipped comfortably under the 29 second barrier.
First up was Cushie Pedro in heat two of the ‘March ON3 525’ and the Derek Larkin owned greyhound took no prisoners as he dominated proceedings to record a twelve length victory. Quickly into stride wearing the striped jacket, ‘Pedro’ put early daylight between himself and the rest of the field as he flew into the opening corner. The son of ‘Soul - Except Change’ was well on his way down the back straight as he opened a huge gap and it was clear that the clock would return some attractive figures. Staying on strong, the Michael Meade trained white and black soared to a twelve length win, in a slick time of 28.80. It is worth noting that this fellow was sold at the last Thurles sale for €650. A shrewd piece of business from his purchasers.
JEN FOLLOWS SUIT
Patrons had to wait until the final race until the 29 second barrier took another bashing as the Graham Holland trained, Nitro Jen was the standout performer in the ‘Spring ON2 525 Unraced’.
Owned by the pig iron syndicate, Nitro Jen was well away wearing the blue to set her stall out approaching the opening corner. Maintaining a strong gallop throughout, the choicely bred daughter of ‘Droopys Sydney - Riverside Charm’, who incidentally produced Nitro Notorious from a previous litter, tracked expertly around the bottom corners and stormed to an eight and a half length victory. The time was a very fast estimate of 28.64.
