GALWAY HAT-TRICK FOR MURRAY AS ABIGAILS SKY SHINES

Peter Farrell

It was a memorable night for local trainer Stephen Murray last night at Galway greyhound stadium as he sent out a hat-trick of winners on a night where Abigails Sky shone brightest at the Connacht venue.

The first of the Stephen Murray trained greyhounds to get their head in front was Crokers Princess in race four, an S7 350. Owned by John Croker, Crokers Princess tasted defeat on her first career start but she bounced back in good style as she pinged the lids from trap three to make all of the running. A 3/1 market chance, the daughter of Pat C Sabbath - Killeen Princess had two and a half lengths in hand over even money favourite, Domhan Jet, in second as the clock returned 19.51.

DYLAN DOUBLES UP

The double was up shortly after in race seven as Bumblebee Dylan raced to a third career win.

Owned by Sam Conlan, Bumblebee Dylan was without a win since April but he gave himself every chance early on as he broke well from trap four before sweeping the opening bend to take charge. From here, the son of Droopys Jet - Gunner Maisie stuck to his task well to see off Burren Solana by one and three parts of a length, in a time of 19.43.

LILLIES SEALS THE HAT-TRICK

The treble was secured for Stephen Murray in the third heat of the Welcome Back to Sport A4 525 as Lillies Joy emerged a narrow winner.

Jointly owned by Michael Daly and Michael Corry, Lillies Joy is something of a specialist when it comes to pinging the lids and she was paw-perfect once again from trap two to lead around the opening corner. From there, Lillies Joy maintained a good gallop throughout and despite the Confused Hassett emerging a persistent threat throughout, the daughter of Ballymac Vic - Brookville Dash held on by a neck to record her fourth career win. The time was 29.42 for the 5/2 market chance.

STUNNING PERFORMANCE FROM ABIGAILS SKY

There was little doubt who produced the performance of the night as Abigails Sky justified her even money price tag to run out a super winner.

Owned by Abigail Morrissey, Abigails Sky is rarely out of the frame and she was chasing a seventh win heading into last night’s A5 525 contest. However, after holding a previous best of 29.23 around Thurles Park, few would have predicted what was to follow for the daughter of Toolatetosell and Mandeville Can. Quickly into stride from trap five, Abigails Sky soon outpaced her early rival Balrobuck Game in the opening yards to take a commanding lead into the first corner. From here, the striking blue brindle drew further and further clear as her rivals simply could not go with the ferocious pace set by the lady in front. Storming to an eleven and a half length victory, Abigails Sky clocked a superb 28.74, a stunning display.

DIXIE QUICKEST IN A4 SWEEPSTAKE

There were four heats of the Welcome Back to Sport A4 525 also on the card it was Dixie who went quickest for owner Thomas Burke.

A sister to Kentucky, who will race tonight in the Grangeview Ten @ Stud 525, Dixie now remains unbeaten in three starts and she is certainly the one to beat in this competition. After a moderate break from trap four, Dixie shipped a bump early doors but still proceeded to show huge early gears to take control rounding the opening corner. It was one-way traffic thereafter for Burke’s charge as the daughter of Jaytee Jet - Droopys Breeze secured a three and a half length victory over Hollywell Tango in second. The time was a smart 28.98 for the 6/4 market chance.
