There were a number of smart performances at Clonmel greyhound stadium last night but the highlight on the card was a couple of doubles for the kennels of Keith Freer and JJ Scully.

The first leg of the Freer double came in race two, an ON2 525, which saw Farranrory Paul produce a devastating debut to win by a wide margin. An October 19’ son of Makeshift - Farranrory Bonny, Farranrory Paul came into the contest with some very useful qualifying trials and although he was forced to chase Invincible Pa until the penultimate bend, Freer’s charge took control at this point and drew clear to seal a convincing ten length win. A lot to like about the performance of this puppy, the time was a hot 28.83.

Shortly after, in race six, Farranrory Megan was a good winner of an Open sprint which took her winning tally to four wins. Trained by Sharon Hunt for Keith Freer, Farranrory Megan was only moderately into stride wearing the striped jacket but the well-made daughter of Jaytee Jet - Farranrory Fay swooped the opening bend and it was lights out thereafter. Staying on well up the home straight, she had a length and a half in hand over Newinn Lisa at the winning line, in a slick time of 16.26.

There were a couple of marathon contests on last night's Clonmel card and there was very little to separate the winners in terms of the clock.

The first 750-yard event of the night was a D1/D2 contest and it was Cloncunny Peecee who followed up on her maiden marathon win last week to kick-start a double for the kennel of JJ Scully. Quickest into stride once again from trap four, the daughter of Pat C Sabbath - Chaotic Lynda made every post a winner to record a two length win over Honey Lane in second. The time was 42.47.

The double was completed in the final race of the night as Cloncunny Walker (Skywalker Farloe - Pretty Jet) broke her maiden tag at the fifth time of asking. A bridesmaid in each of her four starts prior to last night, Cloncunny Walker came out on the right side of the judge’s call as she was neck better off than Clondoty Seamie at the winning line. The time was 29.15.

The fastest time of the night over the standard trip came in race seven, the Kilsheelan Gallop AO/A1 525, as Springwood Salah got back to winning ways for owner Denis McCarthy. After a good break from trap four, the son of Droopys Jet - Allowdale Nokia showed the superior early gears to the opening bend and from here, he set a strong gallop to see off Springfield Oreo by two and a half lengths. The time was a very fast 28.65.

Part Blake made it two wins from three starts in race four for joint owners Una Creed and Mary O’Connor as the impressive black finished well to land the spoils. After a slow break from trap two, the Graham Holland trained son of Laughil Blake - Galloping Maeve motored past Silk Cut Sally in the closing stages to seal a half length victory at the winning line. The time was a fast 28.86.

The second of the marathon contests was a D3/D4 and this was claimed by the Sean Fitzpatrick owned Miss Maisey (Good News - Blogger Bonnie). Only an August 19’ whelp, this lady looks to have a bright future over the six bend trip and further as she only took up the running in the closing stages to storm across the line almost six lengths better off from Five Alley Ted in second. The time was 42.41.
