DOUBLES ALL ROUND AT CLONMEL

DOUBLES ALL ROUND AT CLONMEL

Peter Farrell

It was an all graded affair at Clonmel track last night and it proved a successful night for the kennels of Maria Kennedy and Declan Drohan who both recorded nice doubles.

Glorious Girl was first up for Maria Kennedy in race two which was an A6 525 event. Mahogany Lucky led for much of the way as Glorious Girl was on the receiving end of a hefty bump at the opening turn. However, delivering a strong running display from halfway, the daughter of ‘Good News - Jaytee Sahara’ reeled in the leader to claim a length success in a time of 29.80.

The Kennedy double was completed in race five, an A5 525 event. Like his kennel companion, Extreme Bolt (Clonbrien Hero - Bubbly Secret) was slowly into stride from trap four and trailed the field early doors. A young January 19’ whelp, Extreme Bolt had to do a lot of running but he maneuvered through runners with some good track craft to chin Bionic Blitz on the line. A neck separating first from second, the time was a decent 29.37.

The second of the doubles on the night was for Declan Drohan’s ‘Wilderness’ greyhounds and Wilderness Honey (Newinn Hero - Snowys Babe) was first up in race three. A coursing bred 72 pound bitch, ‘Honey’ showed plenty of pace to the opening corner in this sprint contest and held strong close home to record the win. A half a length victory in the end, the time was 16.74.

Onto race six which was another sprint contest and Wilderness Gold (Rockin Paudie - Snowys Babe) came home a comfortable winner in an identical time to his kennelmate. In close contention heading into the opening corner, the trap two runner took a bump at the first bend but recovered well to fly up the home straight and get the win. Three lengths better off come the winning line, the time was 16.74.

FABULOUS BELLE

The fastest time of the night over the standard trip came in race nine from the David Firminger owned, Fabulous Belle.

Trained by Graham Holland, Fabulous Belle was chasing a fourth career success and was quickly into stride from trap six to lead at traprise. Once in front, the writing was on the wall for her rivals as the daughter of ‘Belles Direction - Beakstown Dazl’ set a strong gallop throughout and stayed on strong in the closing stages. A four and a half length winner at the winning line, the time was a fast 28.94.
