CASCADE KING BOUNCES BACK IN COMPETITIVE ACTION AT GALWAY

CASCADE KING BOUNCES BACK IN COMPETITIVE ACTION AT GALWAY

Peter Farrell

The ‘Welcome Back To Sports’ sweepstakes continued last night at Galway greyhound stadium and one of the standout performers on the night was Cascade King who bounced back from a narrow defeat last time out to seal his third win from five starts

Running in the first semi final of the ‘Welcome Back To Sports A2 525’, Cascade King was hoping to turn the tables on last week’s defeat to Springwell Thomo and he set about this with intent. Breaking smartly from trap four, the Jack Browne owned son of Droopys Sydney - Coolavanny Spice showed terrific early speed to take a two length lead into the back straight over Springwell Thomo in second. From here, Cascade King maintained a strong gallop throughout and although Springwell Thomo cut the gap in the closing stages, Cascade King still had half a length in hand at the winning line. The time was 28.95 for the 6/4 market leader.

In the second semi final, Daddy Paddy (Droopys Roddick - Mary Kate Pats) upset the odds to notch a win for owner Marissa Molloy. A 5/2 shot in the market, Daddy Paddy came through the bars of trap three to take a commanding lead into the opener and never looked back after that. Setting a good gallop throughout, he had a length and a half in hand over the fast finishing Mollrose King in second. The time was 29.08.

RIO FASTEST IN A3

Prior to that, the semi finals of the Welcome Back To Sports A3 550 also took place and it was Pinnacle Rio who followed up last week's win for owner Michael Costello.

Pinnacle Rio was seeking a third win from four starts and he set upon this with a blistering start from trap two. Already possessing a three length lead heading into the back straight, the son of Rio Quattro - Fawn Samantha displayed electric pace to open up a sizable advantage on his rivals, who were making little inroads in behind. Coming home a five and a half length winner over Upandatit, the time was 30.38.

In the second semi final, Hazelhill Hare (Droopys Sydney - Hazelhill Tess) notched his first career win for Colm O’Connell of Limerick. After showing good promise in earlier starts, Hazelhill Hare was out with the washing early on as Ballylean Rogue showed the way in trap four. However, showing big gears midway down the back, Hazelhill Hare was edging closer to his rivals and he came home at speed to chin the leader on the line. A half a length separating himself from Ballylean Rogue in second, the time was 30.45 for the 3/1 chance.

PAT SHOWS THE WAY IN A6

The opening sweepstake saw the two semi finals of the Welcome Back To Sports A6 525 down for decision and it was Breaghmore Pat who went narrowly quickest.

Another greyhound who was still searching for his first win prior to last night, Breaghmore Pat (Ballymac Matt - Eileens Blue) was very slowly into stride from trap four and immediately shot to the rails where he benefited from a clear passage around the opener. Owned by Michael Corrigan, Breaghmore Pat took off at this point and quickly hit the front where he stayed on well to claim a length and three quarter victory over Whitelaced Boots in second. The time was 29.56 for the 3/1.

The second semi final was landed by Minnies Ivan (Ballymac Eske - Lemon Isabella) for owner Jason Burke. The outsider in the market at 4/1, Minnies Ivan never read the script as she too came with a storming challenge around the final turn to cross the line a length and a half better off than Ferryforth Jess in second. The time was 29.61.
