BALLYHIMIKIN NEWS MAINTAINS UNBEATEN STREAK AT CLONMEL

Peter Farrell

The semi finals of the Good News/Belles Direction @ Stud 525 was the highlight on last night’s Clonmel card and Ballyhimikin News made it four wins from four starts for Noreen and Billy Dunne.

After showing some fine form at Youghal prior to venturing to Clonmel, Ballyhimikin News was ultra-impressive last week when running out a convincing seven length winner and he maintained his faultless start again last night with another relatively straightforward victory. Moderately away wearing the striped jacket, the son of Good News - Slaneyside Poppy had to bide his time in behind Freedom Press early on but taking up the running at the penultimate corner, Ballyhimikin News ran out a strong, four length winner. The time was 29.23

EMERS DOUBLE

The opening semi final was claimed by the JJ Dunne owned Emers Charlie and that win sealed a double on the night for Dunne who also scored in the night’s opener with Emers Penny.

Like Ballyhimikin News, Emers Charlie had to sit tight as Maughera Dancer showed first from trap three but stepping it up a notch at halfway, the blue jacket of Emers Charlie struck the front approaching the third bend and despite coming under late pressure from Masterstown Rose in six, the son of Confident Rankin - Emers Sky held on by a short head. The time was 29.36.

The double was set up in the night’s opener as Emers Penny landed a sprint contest by a huge eleven lengths. Wearing the red jacket, Emers Penny showed fine early dash to take up the running at the opening corner and after traffic in behind, the daughter of Confident Rankin - Glengall Girl ran out a convincing winner in 16.78.

IMPRESSIVE MUSTANG

There was a fine display in the second race of the night as the James Kennedy owned Laganore Mustang landed an A8/A9 event in style.

After tasting defeat to the aforementioned Emers Penny on debut, Laganore Mustang (Droopys Jet - Mustang Oaks) stepped up to four bends and made light work of her rivals. Fast ways from trap four, Kennedy’s brindle made every post a winning one as she ran out a ten length victor. The time was a very smart 29.16.

EOINS FASTEST

The fastest run over the standard distance came in race ten as Eoinsdreamgirl recorded a fifth career win for owner David O’Neill.

Normally a fast starter, last night was no different for Eoinsdreamgirl as she was quickly into stride from trap six. In command throughout the contest, the daughter of Laughil Blake - Whiteys Diamond was never under threat and she duly galloped to a five length success. The time was 29.11.
