Galway hosted a twelve race meeting last night and the highlight of said meeting was a double for the kennel of John Croker as Crokers Light and Crokers Suzie scored in their respective contests.

The first of those winners was Crokers Light who recorded the fastest time of the night in race five, an A4 525. Having not raced since September of last year, Crokers Light has been well trialled since and it has clearly left him in fine tune as the son of Pat C Sabbath - Maldinis Fancy took no prisoners in destroying the field. Swiftly into stride wearing the striped jacket, Crokers Light flashed to the front and never saw another tail thereafter. Stretching clear throughout the contest, Crokers Light stayed on strongly in the second half of the race and he claimed a brilliant thirteen length win. The time was a hot estimate of 28.91.

The double was completed in race eight as Crokers Suzie (Ballymac Best - Westmead Suzie) overcame early bumping to stay on strongly in just her second start. It was Day Time Turkey who led for most of the way in this contest but turning for home, four greyhounds still had claims of landing the spoils. It was Crokers Suzie, however, who steered a wide course in the orange jacket and stormed up the straight to cross the line a length and a half in front. The double landed for John Croker, the time was 29.95.

There was another fine performance in race eleven which was the talking dogs A2 525 as Coolemount Boss recorded a third win from four starts at Galway.

Owned by the Four Culchies syndicate, Coolemount Boss is proving a very consistent hound and his front running abilities have seen him rack up four wins from just eight starts. Quickly into stride yet again from trap three, Coolemount Boss showed his customary early gears to lead into the opening corner. Maintaining a strong gallop down the back straight, the son of Iso Octane - Coolemount Bally extended his advantage rounding the penultimate turn and he was never going to be caught on the run for home. Staying on strongly in the final fifty yards, Coolemount Boss came home a comfortable three length winner in the end. The time was a smart 28.93.

With Crokers Suzie set to score in a later race, litter brother Jumeirah Oscar also notched a win in race two to make it a fruitful night for the Ballymac Best - Westmead Suzie litter. Owned by Jimmy Buckley, Jumeriah Oscar ran into a slick novice at Limerick in mid-February but went one better with a nice win over the standard trip. Only moderately away wearing the black jacket, Buckley’s brindle showed all the early dash to take control entering the back straight and from here, he crossed the line a length and a half to the good in 29.13.

One of the most impressive greyhounds on the night came in race six, an A4 525, as Nitro Zeus showed terrific pace to score for A-S-A-P syndicate. Crokers Joey boxed smartly in this one and it was John Croker’s charge who looked a winner down the back straight as he held a seven length lead with eventual winner, Nitro Zeus back in third. However, Nitro Zeus really motored down the back and the son of Jaytee Jet - Diggers Rest, trained by Seamus Fahy, powered to the front rounding the final turn and flew up the straight to record a four length win. The time was 29.12.
