Sponsors Star Sports have cut Ireland to 4-9 to land the Star Sports/ TRC English Derby after a superb opening round performance from the raiding party. ON the opposite side, the home team are 13-8 to claim a first victory in the classic since Thorn Falcon in 2021. Prior to that you have to go back to Dorotas Wildcat in 2018 to the previous UK trained winner.

As we look ahead to the second round, Ireland are currently responsible for 34 of the remaining 96 but many of those are amongst the top twenty in the outright market. In fact, sixteen of the top twenty one in the market are Irish trained.

Shortest priced of the Irish is Clonbrien Treaty at 10-1, while De Lahdedah is 14-1. Irish Derby champion The Other Kobe is next in at 16-1, while last year’s beaten favourite Swords Rex is just 18-1. Boylesports Bob was so impressive in the opening round and can be backed at 20-1, while his kennel companion Jaytee Craze is just 25-1. Laurels winner High Trend is also 25-1. The top end of the market can be seen below.
